I just got random black 'no-name' silicone intake hose from Ebay - Works a treat. So long as you get one which is 3ply you'll be fine.

Unless you are running a restrictive filter with a large turbo (which is a bad idea in the first place) you will have no issues with the silicone intake 'collapsing'.

AVO is fantastic, but you pay for it....you do get what you pay for most of the time.

does the intake manifold need to come off or can the new pipe just be rammed in there?

It needs to come off if you want to retrieve the OEM one in one piece (useful if returning to stock one day)

....Otherwise you will need to hack it in half and feed the new one through with power steering pump out of the way.
