I had starcorp rims on my old RX wagon, they were 17's and scraped bad on the tyre wall. THe problem with mine was the offset, car was also lowered.

Couldnt carry people in the back

So this is why i have the same prob with the same rims... I even rolled my rear guards and it still does it with rear passengers, although i am using 225/45R17 tyres...

225 is too wide! Thats probably why its rubbing, get 215 at most on 17's and 205 on 16's

wider tyres only cost performance anyway as the sidewall will flex more, and its not like they need more grip with awd. Typical newbie mistake really.

whether its 16 or 17inch wheels is not relevant as long as the total diameter of the tyre is the same, which is should be.

anyway, 215,45,17 is optimal and wont rub unless your car is too low.

stiffer springs and struts,
the stock GX/RX stuff is too soft, slot some WRX suspension in it and you'll be less likely to rub.

Yeah a great bloke off this forums gave me his 2002 WRX springs so i think putting those in should help a bit...

W.A suspensions wanted $300+ to simply switch my springs over so i think its best to attempt it as a homejob..or someone here who knows what they are doing wanna make a quick bit of cash ?

UPDATE:

Haven't got the springs in yet but i'm quite sure even with those with maxed out car i'll get rubbage...

Atm i have 225 tyres all round and they are poking out just enough to rub on the back...

So i'm thinking of changing to either 215's or 205 tyres, should sit in far enough to avoid scrubbing.

Now my question is, since i only get added weight on the back of the car hence the back tyres only scrub, front never have and probably never will..

Do i need to change all my 4 tyres to 205's or 215's or can i simply change the back two tyres and have 205 or 215's on the back while keeping my 225's on the front...>?>>???
Cheers for any help

probably best to do all 4, coz then when you go to rotate ur tyres front to back, like u should every 3 or so months, you won't have the same problem. Also, I think it is illegal to have different sized tyres on your car..
