Default Guard Rubbage...ARGH!!

Hey everyone...looking for some sort of advice.

I'll tell you the the story..

My daily is a 1996 Subaru Imprezza GX hatch...started out bone stone with 14" hubcabs. About 2 months back i bought some 17" starcorp wheels to fit onto the car...mainly because they were such a bargain. Not long after fitting them i came into the big problem of guard scrubbing...with more than 2 or 3 others in the car the wheels would scrub against the wheel arch BADLY. SO i thought...guard rolling should fix this problem yeah??

So i go down and see Des at Auto FX, he rolls all 4 of my guards and i think awesome...problem should be fixed. Incorrect...it helped a little bit but scrubbage was still horrible. So i thought, ok i guess the 17" wheels are too big for my car without major modification and i should grab some 16" wheels as they are 2" bigger than the originals...which is recommended yeah?

So last week i changed my 17" rims for some nice 16" rims, AND I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!!!

I'm running out of ideas...any help would be appreciated...

If you maintain the same rolling diameter guard scrape shouldn't be a problem, unless you have bought wheels with the wrong offset

yea, i assume the 96 gc has the same arch size as the 99 gc? cos i have 18's in them and no problem after des rolled the guards, only once or twice when there are 5 ppo in the car..

so... maybe its your tyre choice. what size tyres did you use on the 17's? if its not the tyres, it's gotta be the offset of the wheels itself.

from memory, mine are 225/40/R18 and offset is 48 and they're fine after guards rolled.

it will be the rim width or offset, and it will be rubbing on the suspension components.

On the inside of the strut or the bottom the of the tower itself ? I've never really cared to look.. if we generally take a few people we take the missus' car instead.
