Default Removing Thermostat

I was attempting to do a coolant flush today, when I tried to remove the thermostat, only then did I see how much of a bitch it is to get into.
Is there any trick to it, or anyone found an easy way to get at the bolts holding it in place? (MY02 WRX)

I got the bottom bolt out but I wasnt able to get at the upper one.

Any tricks or tips that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

remove the radiator.

Since you've already disconnected the lower hose and drained it. All you need to do is disconnect the top hose and unplug the fans and two bolts on top and the whole thing lifts out. easy peasy

Just on this topic, went to Repco and they had the thermostat but not the seal......$26 for the Thermostat but was wondering, is the seal reusable or better off replacing.

Also another place open on a sunday that would have a GC8 2000 Thermostat and seal to buy.

Thanks,

Eric
