Ideally it would be nice to get the wiring harness from the "donor" subaru you're getting the long block from

I'm assuming you want the manfiold (for STI) for the TGV delete?
You can do same on stock manifolds with TGVs, just be prepared to grind/weld them

Spec C manifold would be a nice investment though

Options are, cheapest first:

EJ257 short block with your MY99 heads (if undamaged) with the new Autronic PnP SM4 or Link G3 ECU (Good Value IMHO + Bling DisplayLink). Straight bolt in. Done.

EJ257 long block with AVCS Heads (Are these STi ?), then Link G3 or PnP Motec M800 (Variable Cam Enabled) to run the AVCS heads. Yes it can be done with minimal wiring (8 wires) regardless of what workshops may tell you.
You need the EJ257 Inlet manifold, throttle body, cam covers and engine wiring harness as well if your going this option.

Tuna has put STi AVCS Heads into his MY99 using a Motec M800.

I believe Foxymorpo.. is/has put STi AVCS heads into his MY99 using a Link G3 ECU.

Link G3 + complete AVCS long block with everything mentioned would cost slightly more but you would get better power and torque over the entire RPM range than using you MY99 heads and the Autronic.

See Revlimit MS for everything Link G3

***I'm going down the EJ207 AVCS STI Heads Motec M800 path with MY99***

If I had to do it again I would source a complete Jap Spec EJ207 engine with everything (Headers , Turbo, Intercooler, Inlet manifold, throttle body, Engine Wiring harness and un-damaged cam covers). Buy the engine already bolted together to save $$$ then flog your MY99 undamaged stuff off.

Whew!!!!

Jeremy, if your not sure of the condition of your heads, take to Head Torque and get them X-Rayed and a report on them.

I put Tuna's STi heads on my EJ, let me know if you wanna have a look etc.

cheers mate ill have a look into this.

i think the 257 will be a go but ill have the work cut as as anyone would expect with a build. ill probably go the complete and arrange the wiring harness. to make life slighly easier it going to be a fun couple of months.

thanks guys you have all been a great help.

Make sure if your going to go to all this trouble your get AVCS STI heads.

Jap Spec EJ207 heads would be the best

i was under the impression that ej257 came with avcs heads. thats why i have decided on a m800 so it could be controlled, that and some other reasons.

the only thing im not a full bottle on is the tgv delete.
