Default My build questions.

Ok guys, im planning a build for the start of next year and I've got a few questions.
Im asking here instead of the actual shop doing the work as i wont be in Perth til next year and I don't like ringing them on the phone wasting their time with my possibly obvious questions.

Ok, so here's the list:

When the motor is pulled apart then put back together, can the existing timing belt be reused? It's only 15 odd thousand k's old.

At roughly what power levels should the stock oil pump be looked at upgrading?

How to make the motor rev... Is it just tougher valve springs? also, what does over shim or under shim mean?

Thats for a start. thanks in advance.

As mentioned, DO NOT skimp on the small stuff.

Get new:
- gaskets
- timing belt
- oil pump

Stock oil pump is fine for big HP, but if you really want to upgrade, look at the Cosworth ones...they are only about $100 more than the stock one.

may as well chuck a new water pump on whilst you're at it

what he said^
the motor is out, you may as well do all the "expensive" maintenance items while you are at it, clutch, oil, water pump and belts etc. you will also kick yourself if an old waterpump kills your new built motor!

valve springs, be they better aftermarket ones or doubles up will help stop valve bouncing at higher revs, you also need to look at how light and balanced the pistons, rod and crank are. you simply can't swing big heavy pistons as fast as you can light ones.

Oil pump is fine unless you have blown a motor then you take the risk of changing or not. Worth doing IMO. How many km's has the car done? Assuming the timing belt has just been done I guess between 90-120 depending on how well the car is looked after. Unless, and as your Avatar might suggest it's bigger numbers?

What are you doing internals wise?

Its done roughly 110k and i did the 1000k at about 98k i think. It was a while ago.
The 205 did a big end at about 100k and a 207 went in. I'm presuming the same old oil pump got put back on the 207.

I was definitely going to do new gaskets.

Internals wise, i was going to put the cosworth 2.2 kit: http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/c...5-p-53703.html in to the semi closed 207 block.

Im not going to be a stinge. I just want to have everything i'll need ready to go so i dont get calls halfway through asking "do you want this? we gotta wait 2 weeks to get one in"
