Which Tyres???

Hey guys,
gotta get some new rubber so i went out and got a buch of prices so now i was just wondering what tyres people have run on and what people might recommend...

These are everyday tires for me but i do make the occasional trip to the drags and a do a lot of hard driving through the deserted parts of the hills...

k, heres the candidates

Toyo T1R $310 (per Tyre)
Toyo P4 (PROXES 4) $220
Khumo KU36 $230
Bridgestone Adrenalin $270
Bridgestone ER300 $210

Love some feedback
Cheers guys

Joel

+1, I got them on my GC8 and absolutely love them. They are a much harder compound than both of the Toyo's. Cost me about $280ea in 17" from Wheels World

werticusness 23-01-2009 12:17 PM

Khumo gets my vote great value. ku25's im running at the moment are awesome.

BALISTC 23-01-2009 12:18 PM

The Kumho's are a good tyre also.

Ko[R]uPt 23-01-2009 12:49 PM

bought a set of Hankook k107 a few months back. They are marginally more expensive than the RS2. Bought these over the RS2 because John @ Wheelsworld said they were a better tyre in the wet.
VERY happy with them.

[REXPLOIT] 23-01-2009 12:52 PM

And another option. ;)

Ive racked up about 10-12thou to date on some Sumitomo ZIII's. Very good, (predictable) wet and dry grip, nice life so far, and no noisier than the next tyre. Not as 'aggro looking' tread cut as some, however, function over form. :) They perform. Definately worth a look:

http://www.sumitomotire.com/theline/product.asp?c=per&id=42

Was dubious at first, however the competitive price I got them for in a 225/40/18 made it attractive.

Ill go back to them. I have run most of the Toyo stable, (T1-S, now T1-R i think, Proxes and TPG). As well as Hankook K....... 104's???? From memory, and id go back to these Sumi's.

My 2c.

Brent.
:)

[EDIT - Might have been 107, as per above post. I cannot recall exactly]

waxdass 23-01-2009 01:49 PM

Im currently running the hankook K107's, excellent tyre.

Hahaha, I wonder how many times you have posted this..
I love em

Grayzee 23-01-2009 02:17 PM

well i reckon at this stage its between the khumo's and the RS2's. Same price, same sorta tread pattern. Just comes down to reviews I spose...

Thoughts???

haha brad, no tyre has fucked my life more than the toyo
i will never forget it.

stoff 23-01-2009 03:07 PM

I'm running the Bridgestone ER300 on my XT and they have totally transformed the handling. ( but geolanders are probably the worst tyre ever made )
Excellent wet and dry grip and are looking like they should last really well.
These are the same tire the police run on their commo's and they push those things pretty hard!

Rexy03 23-01-2009 04:02 PM

Thats not a bad price for the Kumho`s - might be a bit slippery in winter tho :)
http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/showthread.php?t=21662
Im running the KU31`s - Very sticky but wear a bit quick

type25 23-01-2009 04:03 PM

I used to have rs2's and now i have k107's as my road tyres.
I find that the the k107's are MUCH better than the rs2's.
Quieter, better grip, more comfortable and I'm pushin about 50kw and 120nm more
atw than I was with the rs2's.

Sethor 23-01-2009 04:46 PM

I run the Bridgestone Adrenalin's I think they are pretty good wet/dry tyre, I'm due for a new set soon I would buy them again.

jEstEr? 23-01-2009 04:53 PM

What size are those prices for?

rexhunta 23-01-2009 05:59 PM

you must've been the guy in the black wagon who came in today into my work.

i've ordered a few sets of the KU31 kumhos now and have had really good response back. not sure of prices on 215/45/17s though.

Pete.

Couldnt he run 225/45/17 on the std rims
I got some in 2007 for $180 ea and a bit less than that 3 months ago
about $170 I think........

rexhunta 23-01-2009 06:35 PM

remember pretty much every brand including kumho went up about 9% on jan 1st, so all the prices have changed.. some our cheap tyres are now quite frikken expensive !

NIX WRX 23-01-2009 08:46 PM

+1 to K107s

K104s are noisy and a bit squirmy

Yeah, i think i heard you say aggresive looking ? thats probably why he showed you them.. If you got 5 come down this morning, i'll show you some other stuff i could get.

WhiteRX 24-01-2009 08:25 AM

Bridgestone adrenaline are a great tyre that hold up exceptionally well on the track, and they break away very nicely. Great in the wet and dry. I also have RS2's on my other rims which are very grippy, though dont have the same break away that the re001 have.

pmh 24-01-2009 11:47 AM

And you're based in Bunbury?

rexhunta 25-01-2009 12:23 PM

Yes. good or bad thing ?

MKVIGTI 25-01-2009 03:48 PM

Just my two cents worth. Still running RE070's.

I know that doesn't help in most rim sizes but being Asymmetrical you have a lot more options for rotating tires to even out the wear.

All things being equal, I would take an asymmetrical tyre over a directional one any day.

rexhunta 25-01-2009 05:09 PM

only problem with assymetrical is you can't flip them on the rims. (On say a commodore with the standard irs issue where they peel the inside because of the negative camber) with a directional can flip and then swap sides. With the assyemtrical you can't, all you can do is swap it side to side.

MKVIGTI 26-01-2009 06:48 AM

Yea but you can swap them to any corner without having to re fit and balance.

I see what your saying but your subi shouldn't wear anything like as bad as the dodgy commy setup and if you rotate them reasonably regularly you can make them wear pretty evenly.

Can even switch them at a track day if your really hammering one side ( Barbs long track sure fits this bill )

rexhunta 26-01-2009 08:47 AM

that's a good point, i haven't raced barbs so i wouldn't have a clue on tyre wear up there. with a directional you'd only be able to go front to back, but if they are destroying 1 side of the car you'd definitely want to change to the other.

ImPreSiV 26-01-2009 09:11 AM

I have Yokohama S-drives on my STI. I am very happy with them... Lots of grip, when I need it.
