Default idle problem

hey everyone

I am starting to have a idle problem with my 99 wrx basically it keeps idling @ 1300rpm and hardly ever drops down.

I know it does it when u first start the car up, but alot of my driving is highway doing a steady 100kmph but when i come to traffic lights it just sits @1300rpm sometimes even 1500rpm.

Could it be my throttle sticking at all?

please help

Thanks

Tim

Clean your idle air control valve. If it still idles high, check for vac leaks

Dont spose you use a PowerFC at all? I get odd idles sometimes aswel. On start up it will never hit 1500 idle straight away. It will go to 1000, then 1200, then 1500, and when i come to lights with my aircon on it drops from 900 to 600 (i thought it was ment to go up). So its got me stumped but it never stalls

Tim give this a bash.

Remove electrical connector.

Remove two phillips head screws careful[ not to drop into engine area]

Pull out ICV.

Give a good spray with throttle body cleaning spray removing all the black gunk off the black seating area whipe with cotton rag.

Spray inside hole of throttle body and clean with cotton wool buds or cotton cloth on the end of a screw driver. removing any more gunk inside on contact area

Inspect. All ok reassemble. As 11swrx mentioned if this dos,nt work VAC hose leaks or even intercooling piping?

Reset ECU

Good luck

Happy idling

Yeah regular idle is 800-900 rpm and evidently higher when its cold. 2000 is a bit high id of thought.

It will be a dead air flow meter......Does it keep pulling when you're slowing down?

If so the afm has failed and is outputting a fixed voltage.

Un plug the afm with the engine idling and see if it idles normally (don't drive it with the afm unplugged!!).

If the idles drops to around normal, you need an AFM --> Don't drive it until you have replaced it! Otherwise = BOOM!
