I have the same problem. Had it checked by an A/C guy who said it didn't need a re-gas as it had heaps left. Maybe I may need a new compressor perhaps.

My A/C has the problem of varying between temperature repeatedly going warmer than colder. It gives me the shits.

check the condenser plate

sometimes if its clogged up with bugs, it will work less efficient, especially with the summer heat approaching

it sits in just at the back of the radiator
not very big unit

if you take your radiator off, it will be easy to clean it

Some bar and plate FMIC cores can restrict the condenser in the same way..

yeah
also a bigger radiator
but this is only when the car is stationary for a long period, ie traffic jam
but once the car moves, its back to icy cold again

Well, going from my MY99 to my MY02 there is a HUGE difference in the air con. Although, my car being an STi has climate control now so that could account for the large difference?

Mine almost seems to be doing the opposite. Gets cold when stationary and warms up when moving. Very confusing.
