Exclamation Cracked Radiator MY02 STI

Hey Guy,

just need some help with prices if you know how much it will cost me to replace the top tank or the whole radiator unit in my 02 STI?

Had a funny smell coming out of the engine this morning, so i checked all my levels, seemed to be all ok? This afternoon just gave it a little from the lights, by the time I got home steam was pouring out of the engine bay!! Once I opened the bonnet, i realised where it was coming from and saw a little crack running across the top tank?

Can i replace just the top tank or do i have to replace the whole radiator?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.... !!!

Cheers Dom

You can get the end tanks replaced on their own. Cheapest way is to take the radiator out yourself and take it to a radiator specialist like NATRAD etc. and they will flush the core, and replace the both end tanks and O-rings for usually around $250.

yeah your looking at anywhere between 4-500 to get a brand new one form somewhere like odins, i've only heard good things about taktics all alloy radiators from my mates, you're better off getting one off him, maybe cheaper too i believe?

Hey Taktics,

Ive just PM'd you, if you can PM me your details I'll give ya a buzz mate.

By the way can anyone suggest why this might have happened? I always keep an eye on all my fluid levels, never missed a beat?

Is there something more serious im missing?

Cheers

I've cracked my top tank before, right on the little nozzle bit - Had it replaced has been fine since for a while now. The plastic just gets brittle and fails under pressure.

Plastic and heat /high temperature do mix.....eventually plastic will crack and especially with 13 psi cooling system pressure.
