Black smoke would point towards the ignition breaking down (i.e. plugs not firing).

ECU is going into limp home mode.

what is the max boost you see BEFORE it cuts and at what rpm?

Does you check engine lamp light with ignition on - engine off?

Are you getting a check engine light whilst driving?

just replaced all vacuum hoses round turbo/wastegate and seems to be working ok until the restrictor moved :\
so first thing tomorrow I'm going to put a hose clamp around the restrictor and see how she goes, then get back to everyone afterwards

also pulled the plugs out and checked the leads about 1 1/2 weeks ago when i did the clutch, because i had the motor out and thought may as well

but im running iridium plugs and the resistance on the leads is pretty close to regulation

its probably the wrong diameter hose. its meant to be 4mm, thats why the restrictor moved. clamping seems dodge
