Default Anyone have experience with this? Help needed.

Hi all,

Today I have started to hear a whinning sound coming from the engine bay.
After closer inspection I have put it down to either:

1/ Power steering pump on the way out???

2/ Bearing in one of the pulleys on the way out???

I will be going to Tenagah early next week to have them diagnose the issue.

The sound can be heard in the cabin at idle also.

Just wondering if anyone has had this problem before. I have searched however my noise seems a little different to the ones that have been described.

Car has done approximately 130K and yes the full 100K service was done.

Thanks for any advice,

Daren

Do the old screwdriver stethoscope trick.
Big long one, stick the blade on different parts and the handle in your ear.
Should be able to to hear the whine clear as day through it.

Could be any of the following:
Air con belt tensioner
Alternator bearings
Water pump
timing belt idlers or tensioner

Spray some Wd-40 on to the air con belt tensioner first to eliminate that and see how you go.

I have a spare air con one if you need it.

Last time i heard whining, i thought it was something major, turned out to be my power steering pump was a bit low on fluid.

No probs bud and you're welcome anytime.

Perhaps grab a set of drive belts from repco or supershit in time for the new alt? should only be around $20-$30.
