Default Weird driveline issue?

Hi All,

Here's one I can't nut out.......

My car loses drive occassionally, usually within 10 minutes of leaving home in the morning.

The things I've noticed are:

The loss of drive is accompanied with a 'clunk' in the driveline, the driveline makes a small 'clunk' sound then it feels as if the clutch is slipping (it's not the clutch!).

Whilst the driveline is slipping there is a shudder through the car if forced to slip (i.e foot down).

There's no clutch smell at all and at all other times the clutch/ gearbox is fine and does not slip at all.......

Once it has slipped for 30 seconds to 1 minute it is fine again, the clutch bites hard and all is good again!

I just don't get it??

What would cause the trans to slip for a short amount of time then be fine again 1 minute later???

Centre diff issue???

Opinions please! Ahg is close!!

A friend of mine had a similar issue on take off in his RS ages ago. Turned out the spline clip for one of the rear shafts had popped out and the spline got chewed out. Occaisionally the spline would move further in and it would hold and feel normal.

It's weird...... It happens on the same lefthand corner (john sanders drive on to Selby st in osb park) every time it happens..... freaky!

less than 5 km from home.

There's 1 clunk..... then slippage (but no bad noises)....... then it goes back to normal!

yeah driveshaft or centre diff is shagged. As mentioned 'sounds' like a shaft is loose.

Jack up car do a physical check of shafts, if no love then remove wheels and inspect closer.

I'll throw it on a hoist this arvo and see whats what.....sounds like the circlip to me now.

The shaft moving off the splines = slippage, then re-engaging on the splines = all good!

I seriously didn't think the shafts could float around that much..... Learned something new!
