check the coolant hose going back to the turbo, the poxy subaru spring hose clamps aren't the greatest, you might see a stream of dried coolant running down from this hose connection to the turbo housing

and yeah, a split inner cv boot on the drivers side will spray grease all over your dump pipe but from memory i got more smell than smoke when this happend

Ive got the same thing when the engine gets really hot.

if you cant find the source of the leak, make sure you keep an eye on your oil levels..

Turbo-side rocker cover gasket.

Finger + underside of rocker cover = oil.

Easy fix

just had the same problem fixed on my car. There was oil leaking from the turbo and running down on to the dump pipe.

Same probs for me a couple of weeks ago. The rocker cover gaskets needed to be replaced and now she's fixed. No more plastic smell
