Just a question to all you guys that have had gearbox problems with the 5 speeds in the GC8, is it cheaper to replace second gear and syncro, or to get a good second hand gear box from say JWS etc.

Bear in mind, i will be taking the box out myself and fitting it back in. if anyone knows prices on second hand boxes, and prices on new second gear and syncro (trade price), let me know.

I hope I'm not dropping him in it but,.....

dtrally (Doug) would be the man to talk to going from reading similar threads. He might have th eparts or even a box ready to go.

Indeed! dtrally would be the man to speak to! He helped me with my 5spd gbox. Doug knows his stuff and hes a champion.

I've got nothing ready to go at the moment. And I've just taken on a major project.
If it's just got a worn synchro on second it would be worth repairing. If it has teeth missing it gets to the point that it often costs more than a good secondhand gearbox.
Mainshaft is about $400, driven side of second is about $200, depending on the age/era the synchros can be from $50 ea to nearly $200 ea. Sometimes the parts are no longer available and you have to buy a whole lot of other stuff to update.
