Default CD player dissapearing?

the cd player in my my05 sti suddenly stopped working yesterday.
when the CD button is pressed, it does nothing, the 6 CD's show up as being in the machine, but the CD, Eject, Load buttons do nothing...
i've disconnected and reconnected the battery to try and reset it, but after doing that, now the CD icons are gone, and it appears to have tricked itself into thinking it is now just a radio.
could something have become disconnected at the back or is the 6 stacker in the unit itself?
anyone else had a problem like this?

Yes...my MY06 has had no fewer than three CD players in it...all replaced under warranty. Same issue as yours. Subaru took the unit out and sent it to Sydney for exchange for a "new" reconditioned one. It's due to a CD becoming stuck in the changer. Apparently it's not an uncommon problem.
There is one piece of advice I will offer....do NOT load self-burned CD's into the unit...it seems that it only likes proper commercially recorded CD's for whatever reason... Ever since I've avoided burned CD's there hasn't been a problem (touch wood)...for over 2 years now....

I had the same problem with mine.

But after pressing lots of buttons inc the Eject button the CD was spat out.

Low and behold it also was a Burnt CD.

I'm asuming your warranty on your STI has expired?

But an aftermarket deck, go alpine and buy a pocket/compartment to go underneath it from supercheap or the like.
