Default Exhaust queston

Did a quick search but didnt find the answer i was chasing.

Just installed a cat back 3 inch exhaust onto my otherwise stock 98 WRX. Have retained stock dump pipe and there is no cat in the new section.

Since installing, on decelleration I am getting alot of popping through the exhaust. Is this normal and would it be causng any damage?

My understanding is that the 98 ECU is tolerant enough to handle the exhaust without a tune.

I reckon the pop and crackle sound good though.

would the addition of an exhaust cause the car to run richer?

Nope, GC/GF's actually react well to an exhaust system. Add a BOV and watch your fuel consumption sky rocket.

Been down that path. Got a stock BOV atm and happy with it. Might be a bit early to tell but I think my fuel consumption might have got a little better since exhaust went on. Time will tell.

Next stop, TMIC...
