Well ... it's not the fastest way around. Having said that though, i did manage to do alright in a far few events with a reasonable amount of leg cocking going on tho - but i usually came 3rd or 4th rather than 1st.

I'm sure there's more involved than my rear inside contact patch in that equation though

Go see John Fowler at Wheels World.

But here is some food for thought...
Interesting that you got "axle tramp" as you call it out of corners on a softer setting (the bang is the rear diff carrier hitting)...it means that you are getting good traction at the rear which is a good thing (there are bolts to reduce this).
But swaybar settings, spring rates and ride height are the things which will cause lifting of the wheel, not damper settings. Perhaps the car is too low and Jap springs are traditionally very hard too. The other factor is the rake on the car...ie whether it's lower at the front/back/or neutral...but this can only be adjusted with coilovers.

Good point - Whiteline do a set of bushes to lock the rear diff carrier, and a set of bolts to lock the rear subframe. They made a huge difference to my car - took a lot of squirm out.

Not a very expensive mod, either.

Like Steve says, go and see John.

Hmm, I already have the rear diff carrier pins installed and yes they help with the "thump" on hard gear changes. However the problem I have when on a softer damper setting is the actual rear wheel literally skipping across the surface under power.

The springs I have are not all that hard at all actually, I find it more then resonably comfortable on the road. I might tighten up the front bar and see what effect that has.

Looks like the weight of the driver is causing the car to lean to one side... maybe less maccas dazza.
