Leg Cocking!
Hey all, noticed lately at MC's that my car is lifting the inside rear wheel quite easily with Rcomps on. I can't see this as a good thing seeing as there's once less wheel to put power down with and one less tyre for traction...
What are the causes of the wheel lifting and is it as bad for handling as I think it is? Cheers, Darren

Yeah, it's commonly called Tripodding. It's to do with the suspension setup and you are right, the car will work better with all wheels down. There are a couple of reasons for the tripodding so may need to know a little more about your setup.
Common causes are: very little rear suspension travel (droop) Too soft springs/shocks on the front Stiffer rear setup (bars) than the front.

Is your rear swaybar adjustable? If so put it to a softer setting, that will reduce it to some degree.

Thanks for the reply gents, the suspension mods are as follows:
-Apexi springs with Koni adjustable shocks -Cusco 22mm adjustable rear sway bar (set on the stiffest setting) -Whiteline 22mm adjustable Front swaybar (only 2 settings on this and its on the softest) -STi Pillow ball rear traling arms, lateral arms and swar bar links Funny thing is that it seemed to have increased since the front bar was installed. However, I must say that I was much happier with this setup at mc's then before (without front bar). Darren

What settings were the shocks on?
This is quite a common problem with the GC8s when used to motorsport events. A front 4 point Tie bar and having more resistance in the shocks up front will help to stop diving. Wouldn't worry too much about it. Were your times faster or slower in general? It is very hard to completely eliminate without doing full coilovers and matching bars all over the place.

All the shocks were set at full hard (although bare in mind that the Koni's only have rebound adjustment). I have a 4 point tie bar in the front and yeah the car was a drastic improvement to when I didn't have a front sway bar (thus me being able to stay within the same timezone as you fast guys!)
Come to think of it, if the rear shocks were set on full hard (rebound) and the cornering forces are higher, the wheel may not have the time to full extend down it's travel? Just a thought

change the front swaybar to the harder setting maybe?

Yes you can clearly see the 4 point strut under the front. Suspect spring rates, talk to John Fowler he is your man at Wheels World. |

I'm not an expert, and i must say i never did completely sort out my car acting the tripod - but i'd experiment with making the rear swaybar softer and the front swaybar harder.
Might also pay to turn the struts down a bit too, just as an experiment. If that doesnt get you anywhere, like morgs said - it's got to be spring rates... any idea what you've got? |

I have no idea what the spring rates are on my springs. All I know is that they are Apexi's GC8 low springs However the question is, how much difference does the tripoding make to times because even though I had the problem, my times were improving from previous attempts. Darren
