Default STi transponder/blank key

thought id start another thread up and leave ramons alone.... so what your saying jdm style is that if you have an aftermarket ecu you can trick it??
correct me if im wrong

Yeah Tristan, from what ive been told the transponder module in the
key barrel is linked to the ECU, well thats for my 204 anyway not
too sure about the other models but would say they are prob all
the same.

So if you change ECU it removes that connection.

So there's no way you can remove the transponder from your original key and somehow attach it to the new STI key?

yeah, getting a new car, but have to hold off until end of year/jan '10 before i can do anything, so doing a few things to the rex. Probably not worth it, but i love the sti bling factor

You can but it would make the key look shit and dodgey (glued to the side), also if that is the only key you have and you lose it your farked.

The boys with the JDM cars are getting these keys as they only come with
1 key, silly japs.

If you were that into it, you could remove the transponder reader (Black ring around the ignition barrel, and cable tie your original key inside of it up under the dash somewhere.
Get new key cut to suit the old and away you go. However the reason the transponder is there is for security. It would be like removing your alarm system to make it look pretty.
