Aftermarket or STI components
Hey guys,
Whilst saving my pennies and considering what mods to install on the MY06 Hatch after an exhaust and tune is done, I started wondering about quality vs cost scenarios, and either considering aftermarket or stock STI parts. Was it is everyones thoughts on STI parts for a non-STI vehicle(hatch). I think that possibly this may be a cheaper alternative in some instances than buying/installing aftermarket parts to some degree. Or maybe not? Any suggestions or thoughts welcome.

for some things sti would be better if its a direct swap without mimimal modifactions, once you have to start shaping, bending, cuting then the argument sti vs aftermarket would sway strongly the aftermarket. most quality parts (non china) are a breeze to install and the best thing, if and when you return back to stock, its very easy and you have the option to re-sell the parts and make some money back.
ive changed my tune the last few years and will say that factory does it best but don't rule out well thought out parts from various bins around the place. good luck! |

I was looking at what STI parts would be a possible straight bolt on; etc without effort to improve performance or driveability. Quote:

Do you want it to go faster? stop better? handle better? look cooler??
seeing how you have improved the tune and zorts, id be looking at brakes and handling. Tyres are the biggest influence on ride, handling and braking....but im sure you have decent ones already. - brakes is simple, just spend some coin on decent pads. then rotors too if required. - handling, id look at sways first, whiteline or cusco. check out on the whiteline website, they have a good list of upgrades for different model wrxs. Enjoy....

Cheers for feedback, I think I'll have to have a good think exactly what I want to do when deciding on handling , brakes and suspnsion and upgrades afterwards. .

I think aftermarket is better in terms of suspention and handling. I mean why buy a sti sway bar if a whiteline one is the same price but with a variance of sizes. Eg 24mm sway rear, 22mm front, antilift kit, bushes etc.
Aftermarket brake pads all the way! Different rotors etc. Cusco strut bars are awesome!!!

STI, OEM or decent brands.. fit best.
Over the years, i've loved cusco for as it pretty much fits dead on. |

Mix and match...some sti parts are great (intercoolers, turbo's, brakes, 2nd hand dampers etc, HD engine/trans mounts etc) usually pick them up cheap too..
Other parts are good aftermarket (sways, um...ecu's....stuff that sti dont make?) Actually, most sti parts are good for cars up to about 300hp at hubs.
