Default Exhaust question (yes i did search)

i did search for quite a while and i wasnt sure if i should resurect a thread so i started a new one. the cg8 i bought had two previous owners, the first towner supposidly put an exhasut on, which i dont know how far back or if he had it retuned or if he did it himself. after doing a lot of research about tuning thanks to this forum). i installed a boost gauge today and i have max 0.8 bar (11 psi)

my question is could the first owner have got screwed over and not had a tune after fitting (possibly a full) exhaust? i just thought the car would have had a bit more grunt to it. as far as i know the only mods are the exhaust.

cheers

Aaran

Not getting a tune on Gc8 model after an exhaust install is generally not a problem.

However, you should be running 14psi of boost as standard. Check the vacuum hose coming off the compressor cover of the turbo for the air restrictor olive.

Well his profile lists a my00. So assuming this is correct. Boost should be 14psi

It could be running off wastegate pressure (~7psi)

Check all the vacuum lines around turbo etc, and check to see that your restrictor pill is where it should be.

do you have any kind of manual boost control? or an aftermarket ecu of some sort?

cheers everyone!!! so i have a my98 front end do i??? Fuck! haha its raining so i will check tomorrow. i dont think there is manual boost control, and i will check ecu tomorrow but im assuming its stock. what do i do with the restrictor pill if its not there? just chuck it in that position? my tubes to the waste gate solenoid are very different 4mm vac to like ten mm.

i am running my boost gauge off from the front of the engine

you dont have a 98 front end.

check all your lines first for splits, loose hose clamps etc. if you can feel the pill in that section of hose you're fine. if not, you need to buy one from subaru (they are pretty cheap) and slide that in.

Description and part number:
Restrictor Pill, 0.8mm assembly ("T" & lines) (22326AA260)

if you arent mechanically minded, or you're not sure what you're doing, take it to a reputable workshop - do it once, do it right.
