Default Stock STi Turbo: Life Expectancy?

How long would a ('04) stock STi turbo last if its never been pushed past stock boost? I know it largely depends on driving style and maintenance... but I'd like a rough idea, assuming decent maintenance and the occasional spirited drive.

Thanks in advance.

Mine is 10 years old (Version 6 STI) and everything is going just
dandy... so as BlackSTI says, just drive the thing and see what happens.

How long is a piece of string indeed! =)

Yeah, I had a 06 WRX but I've let it go, now looking for an STi. A friend warned against getting one too old because the turbo might be nearing the end of its life span. So I just wanted a 2nd opinion.

So no need to worry about it?

Good point. Not sure how the missus would take it though.

Haven't read many threads on failed turbos on here.

I would aim to buy the newest you can afford as the drivelines have more goodies on the 05's onwards but buy the car you want and replace parts as required ( or the mod bug dictates ) and not worry to much about when they will require replacing. Most will last longer than you think.

Lets me say this, 2005 Subaru WRX STi. Forged 2ltr bottomend, with nice heads (AVCS), 6 speed MT with dccd and a nice shape. Goes like a shower of shit, coilies and swaybars = done.

As blackSTi said, turbos dont really shit themselves all so often. I think ive read about more big end bearing failures then turbos.
