Pull it out and strip it down to see whats broken
Got car transported to my mates workshop, will take out and strip over the weekend/early part next week...

Spoke to Nick earlier he's thinking 2nd gear, synchro and output shaft, but i will know more when me and me mechanic mate scott have it apart, gonna rebuild it with him, cant see it being that hard....

how much are standard parts compared to aftermarket stronger ones?

is cryo freezing standard parts an option, i saw a artical in one of my car magazines i will try and find it.

heres a forum where they have discussed it

No SHIT :)

wouldnt bother cryo or heat treating it.

it would be cheaper to knock on the JWS door for a replacment 4.444 box and swap the centre diffs over.

the last one only did me for 6k ish mate!! so id rather not buy another second hand box.... if i get it rebuilt i know its gonna be better than something that i dont know the history of hey?

tuna 27-10-2009 07:09 PM

rebuilding a secondhand box is still a second hand box though.

new bits or not, rarely a guarentee for it to last any longer.

normally things like clutch type or driver error cause the box to fail.

dont decel in 2nd!

Davey, sounds exactly like what happend to mine not long ago. If you are lucky it's 'just' the mainshaft with at least one 2nd gear tooth missing (on the mainshaft). Worse still is there are teeth missing from the gear itself and synchro is all f&#ked up.

point taken mate, what i meant was i know it will have a new 2nd gear etc.. with a second hand box i dont know what it will be like. the last 4.444 box n diff cost me 2800...

does deceling in 2nd cause this?
