Default gears ???

driving home tonight... all of the sudden ... i cannot get my first gear into gear... 2nd slided in normal... could NOT get 3rd in.. 4th was normal and 5th could not get in either... i tryd my hardest with 1st and 3rd and 5th and when they did go in the car made the worst noise ever a loud screetching noise...

would this be my syncros ?
how much am i looking at to replace them i have a current 5speed dog box 1st to 4th strait cut.. and syncros were replaced when i got the gear box witch was about a year ago..

help ppl

Possible bent/damaged selector. If its a dog box its got no syncro's. I'm assuming you mean straight cut gears with syncro's.

It sounds like something in the select mech is bent or your selector rod is touching the floor. (common with dodgy short throw shifters from E-Bay)

Has anyone fugged with anything there recently? Or has the crossmember off or anything?

As long as the gears aren't rooted (it sounds like they are ok) then it won't be expensive to fix. Shift rods and forks are plentiful in busted gearboxes in the corner of everyone's shed.

I had a similar problem before, turns out one of my selector pin disintegrated! Till this day, I still dont know how it happened.
