Default MAF OR MAP with Autronic

Just curious to know for those running Autronic/Motec if they are using the MAP instead of the AFM? If so does the car run better, worse or the same?

Any cons to using the MAP??

Cheers

Brett

One of the reasons I was looking forward to getting a aftermarket ECU, I wanted to get rid of the AFM. Not only is the AFM a small restriction to flow but also can be quite fragile (especially in the MY99/00). Anyone that has had a dodgy AFM will tell ya how expensive it is to replace and also how it can place your engine in jepordy.

Hey Darren,

Thanks for that, yep I have heard about the AFM's in rexes, when I bought the car in march the afm was dicked and I got a brand new one put on before I bought the car..

Am leaning towards using MAP, but I know from my GTR days that some people don't like the daily city driving on MAPs, not as smooth as AFM's if i remember correctly. Though I had twin z32 afm's so restriction wasn't a real problem..

Cheers

Brett

Not an issue with the Autronic. Have been running one on my last two rexes running MAP with no daily driving issues and 100% reliability. There are just too many horror stories out there of 99-00 rexies shitting their AFM's and then leaning out and going bang!

Silly question perhaps, is there a good way of monitoring the status of an AFM in a 99/00 rex, can you pull it out and take a look or a lean/rich air meter the best way to go?

The Autronic AFM setup is very smooth - drivability better than stock, in my opinion ... and im not bullshitting.
