I'm running 225/35R18 as they are only a few mm difference in diameter to the stock 16's.

40 will give you a more comfy ride.....if your car is lowered, i believe you may need to go for the 35...

Aren't 35s too short height wise, in terms of space between rim and top surface of tyre?

Years ago, when i went to replace my tyres which came with the car (had 225/35 18s), i was told there could be insurance issues because they were too thin and that insurance may not cover me in a crash. "Oh your tyres were too thin; the reason you bounced and crashed when you went over that pothole was because of a lack of dampening, caused by a very low tyre profile. And now you get no moniez" or something like that.
Similar to why suspension can't be too stiff.

Just going by what I was told. I changed to 16s when i realised that being safe (insurance-wise) and going up to 40's would mean bulk scrapage on a GC8.

Could be wrong don't hurt me

im running 225/40/18 and im telling you now worst mistake ever, i've got my guards rolled and when you take a corner at a reasonable speed the guard will still touch the tyre . dont even think about having people in the back even worse. o forgot to mention my car aint even lowered yet.

doubt 35 profile will be even better, you might aswell go for 17's.

While on topic, whats the widest tyre you can fit on a 17x7.5" rim?

If anyone is getting tyres should really check out a seller [option1garage] on Skyline australia...Ill copy and paste some of the prices.

Taken from Skylineaustralia.com:

KU36

205/50/15 KU36 $151.00
215/45/16 KU36 $133.00
225/50/16 KU36 $155.00
215/45/17 KU36 $161.00
225/45/17 KU36 $194.00
235/45/17 KU36 $164.00
245/40/17 KU36 $215.00
245/45/17 KU36 $202.00
255/40/17 KU36 $227.00
275/40/17 KU36 $250.00
285/40/17 KU36 $258.00
295/35/17 KU36 $234.00
315/35/17 KU36 $250.00
335/35/17 KU36 $255.00 (out of stock - pm for ETA)
225/40/18 KU36 $233.00
225/45/18 KU36 $235.00
235/40/18 KU36 $207.00 (out of stock - pm for ETA)
245/35/18 KU36 $206.00
245/40/18 KU36 $254.00
265/35/18 KU36 $236.00 (out of stock - pm for ETA)
275/35/18 KU36 $275.00
285/35/19 KU36 $269.00

I think those prices are pretty damn good. He also delivers anywhere in australia for a very reasonable price. I believe they are direct from Kumho Aus.

Pretty sure as long as the load rating of the tyre is within car manufacturers specs there shouldn't be an issue.

Yeah, but you'll find as you go lower profile, the load ratings go lower too.
Making tyre selection harder.
