Default Overheating

Ok so I got my last service at 70,000 and needed a new radiator hose as the one I had was cracked and my car kept overheating. The rex has now done 78,000 and I'm getting the same problem already. Is this a common occurrence or am I just lucky?

Possibility you blew a head gasket when it overheated, if it gets really hot very fast when you give it some stick be prepared to shell out a couple of grand for a head job, it could also be a stuffed thermostat, blocked radiator or an air lock in the system but every WRX motor I've had has always run at a normal temp no matter what the weather or conditions are like, take it to one of the Sube workshops and have it checked out.

I haven't cooked it, it just gets really high and then drops again. There is obviously something bigger than the radiator hose cracking.

Does it drop whilst driving and get hot whilst stationary?

No the opposite, when stationary it's normal. When I take off it heats up to just over halfway and then slowly drops back down. It had the new radiator hose put in 2 months ago at Melville Subaru.

Sounds like a stuck thermostat

Yup. If it goes high and then drops quickly, you need a new thermostat.

take it back, get new thermostat, win

what is happening is your themostat is staying closed for too long allowing the temp to rise before opeing & then cooling down

get onto it asap as your engine will not like this & will be putting extra strain on all your cooling system & head gasgets
