Plenty of options there, that's all good news!

What about the rear did they have the 1.1:1 drop gear making their crown and pinion 4.04, fingers crossed they are 1:1 to the rear?

Morgan, the only boxes to use 1.1 to 1 drop gears were 3.9 with a 3.54 rear.
Never did any 4.11 or 4.44 boxes have anything other than 1 to 1.
Some 3.9 did have 1 to 1 however. N/A boxes and JDM stuff.

Many, many people get it wrong. I've seen every combination of mismatched diffs and drop gears. Centre viscous couplings so tortured they've exploded out the side of the case!

Thanks Doug, yes I have heard many horror stories, where's Polar these days?

This thread has gone on far too long without pictures so I it's time to add a photo. AKA rear end shot with Perrin love. Guess what size sway bar that is and you win......stuff all. Looking forward to fitting some 4.44 mix masters under that gucci diff cover:

Special care taken to avoid bathroom spec reflections

Thumbs up

Well things have progressed with this project so it's time for an update.

After I priced new gears from Subaru I was wheeled off to recover.

Front Crown & Pinion $835
Rear Crown & Pinion $1045
Drop Gear $880
Speedo adapter $???
Sub total $2760 + ?

So I picked up an 8 Bolt 5 speed JDM WRX/STi V5-6 4.44 gearbox and Suretrac rear LSD with a rhs drive shaft for $1580 delivered. The donor parts will be swapped out then on sold to recoup costs.

A 12kg center diff has also found it's way into the build specs. Can anyone tell me what parts I need to fit this? Apparently they only fit into the pre 99 housings?

I have been looking into clutches and flywheels and will probably settle on a KSU23006XHD Extreme Clutch 1250Kg clamp with organic plate and machine back my already lightened OEM flywheel.

I am off to Wakefield soon and could well need more parts...

Do you mind if ia ask what you use the car for? And also why you went with this 5 speed?

No problems. Weekends it sees a range of motorports with hill climbs and sprints. Weekdays it's a daily driver of about 40km round trip. I am planning on doing a range of track events in the near future including Wakefield and Bathurst plus our local SDMA hillclimb.

I bought the listed 5 speed only as donor parts: 4.44 crown and pinion and 1:1 drop gear and speedo adapter for my Ivan Albins 1-5 Helical. Following a change in manufacturer I was advised the post 2000 crown and pinions were weaker, so I bought the year I did. I am not interested in converting to a 6 speed.
