mallet used , success!! , i hate using a hammer or mallet but it seem to be Subaru tool no:1! , followed by a 12mm socket.

i feel a little let down by the short shift .. its not so short really :P.

at least now my hammered shifter will match my hammered panels ... thanks hail!

anyways thanks guys!

There isn't much room inside the cabin to get a good swing to belt the shifter into place though hahaha... had to do the same thing when I fitted my short shifter, gave it a fuckin' good bashing with a rubber mallet and it eventually went in with lots of swearing

Just push the gearstick down until it wont go down further

Then get underneath the car and put the circlip back on... if you ask 'what circlip' then you'd better get on your hands and knees and start looking for it

Circlip pliers are very handy to get it back on too.
