Default MY02 STI - Boost Spike

Hi All

Well after a few years without a WRX i'm back behind the wheel of a MY02 STI.

I'm a bit rusty on my subaru knowledge so please be patient.

This new STI i just purchased holds boost around 1 - 1.1 bar however it does spike close to 1.4 - 1.5 bar. I feel it shouldn't spike that high - what can cause this spike????

Car is MY02 STI with 3" Inch exhaust turbo back, HKS or Apexi POD filter, - annoying HKS SSV blowoff valve.

Also where is the best position to connect the vacumn/boost line for the boost gauge - on my previous wrx MY00 there was a spare nipple on the manifold - but the STI does not have this spare nipple - i'm not that impressed with the way the previous owner teeeed this boost line for the gauge. Not sure if this is correct.

P.S i'll post pics once i clean/detail the car on the weekend

Thanks

Anthony

Im not a genius with cars, but my 04 sti was spiking aswell
i put a manual boost controller on it until i can get it verso tuned.
this has fixed the problem of the spike but ive been told the manual boost controllers can make ur engine go boom after a while.
also i put my boost gague as close to the manifold as possible on one of the vac lines.

connect it on the BOV line hose or inlet manifold hose

would go with BOV line as connecting to inlet manifold hose can cause gauge fluttering off boost.

This is normal.

STI's spike boost to give you the "seat of your pants" feel and then drop back to 1.0 bar.

Well thats good to know

Am i correct in saying an aftermarket boost controller is not necessary when a verso tune is done??
