Default info needed on b4 twin turbo engine 99/00

Hey
I maybe getting a b4 twin turbo engine (1999-2000 model engine) for my MY00 wrx as the motor is stuffed. I have been told that these engine are better than the a normal wrx engine, slightly stronger and better cam profile (more torque so i was told).

I have a few questions.

I have been told i can bolt my manifold (inlet and exhaust) and all the other bits and pieces straight to this engine. Can anyone confirm this?

The car has autronics. Will it be unsafe if i drive the car without a new tune since its a different engine?

Is the engine actually any better/strong than a standard wrx my00 engine?

cheers
Anton

It is accepted that the Jap spec B4, RSK or GT-B engines are better than the Aussie EJ205.
There are lots of minor differences but essentially it will fit. I've done quite a few and they perform well. You really need to strip it to a bare long motor, take the oportunity to freshen up the timing belt and water pump unless you know the history etc. Block off all the TT water and oil feeds and swap over your fittings and manifolding. Some chose to clamp an old bolt into the unused hoses, I prefer to get the genuine blanking plugs from a dead engine and a 15mm welsh plug for the unused drain back. That way it looks neater.

Maybe your tune needs checking anyway if the old engine torched a big end or piston?

old engine had done 240 000 and was making 276 at the hubs so it was time for it to go i guess. ill get a tune done atsome stage just lack of fund will mean it will have to wait for a little while.

Sounds good i have the old engine so their should be bungs on their i can use yeah? the welshplug for the coolant i will have to get though from the sounds of it.

timing belt wise ill probably get the engine up and running and then do it. Ill compare it to the 99wrx engine to see if its all the same stuff i did the timing belt on tha engine at about 190 000 so may use those bits for now
thanks for your advice

hey mate did this swap in my car and just like doug says you just need to blank off the tt stuff and then fit all your original gear ... mine made about 30hp more with the tt donk over a 98 wrx donk ... it also lasted three years of drag racing and got hammered in more than a dozen burnout comps (rear drive only) before throwing in the towel and and a rod out the block ... im usually the first person to throw in a motor unchecked but if your low on cash sometimes saving money on tune and timing belt could end up costing another donk in the long run ...

I was just to about to type a tune is cheaper than a motor.

I went from a wrx motor to a tt motor blanked of for the VF30 with a motec.. and it pinged to death.

ps I presume your buying Jon's car since he rang me 2 days ago asking about this exact same thing.

Your getting a bargain, and I helped source those wheels

The metal lines for the heater are also in a different location. To swap them over you need to remove the timing belt and covers anyway. The dodgy way is to use flexible non specific hoses instead of the moulded genuine ones, but again I prefer to swap the bits to make the fit as close to OE as possible.

I have no engines or halfcuts available at the moment, only gearboxes.
