decisions
ok so im at a crossroads with my car.
i can either keep it and do little bit more modifications on it, or i can sell it and buy a gc8 and build a 257/207 and all the other candy to put in it and start getting into rally. or i can go and buy an almost dead gc8 and transfer as much gear from the current car into it. im leaning towards the last option atm because my car has all the stuff i want in it but its to nice to flog around. opinions etc welcome please. |

Don't ruin a perfectly good car/package to start from scratch
transfering all the gear to a GC8! Either keep the car as a whole or sell it as a whole any other decision IMHO is going to be a step backwards!!!

I went down this path, as you know having bought the above car from me.
What else is there to mod on the Spec C, maybe a bigger turbo, but that car has had enough spent on it, selling is the issue as the market has too many Sti's for sale at the moment. Is Rally really an option for you, don't you work away, plus it would be as expensive as hell. If you take the last option what will you do with the GD shell, this option seems a big step backwards in my opinion. If you can afford it, keep the current car... |

maybe you should read up some more on what modifications you are actually allowed to do to a rally car

Rally. Ever done it before? Ever been on the gravel for more than a minute/above 2nd gear? If you seriously want to try the rally thing, talk to Doug here who is our residential expert. Or Broomy, but he doesn't frequent here as much. They will advise you on what you need (car setup-wise and budget-wise) to have a good stab at it. I'd imagine they'd also tell you that if you're not a very handy man (with a spanner and a steering wheel) it could get very expensive. ...as i may or may not have found (through no fault of my own I still claim no really) Aah yes, decisions. All the best! I wish I had your predicament!

quick search here and only found something for targa and that the cars have to stay original?? Quote:
and as for never having done it before theres only one place to start. ill happily admit i know near nothing about it. at least on the rules and regulations side. but as its the only sport ive ever really had a big interest in and i love driving it just seems logical that i should give it a go. |

Do some tarmac events in the Spec C. The car is PERFECT for doing events in, it's what they're built for! It doesn't have to be a dedicated race car to a: be competitive and b: a shedload of fun without taking a toll on the car as a whole. The amount of chassis work you'd want to put in a gc to be of similar merits to a GD doesnt make it compute.
At the end of it, you'll spend twice as much with pretty much the same result. Do seat time and get a feel for what you want to do.
