maybe if there is air leak idle will change if blocked. using a type of spray might block leak for short time . only a guess
my car is idling slightly rough but would be hard to tell change. going to search for leaks today pretty sure there's a small leak somewhere.

Providing your not looking for a vacuum leak, soapy water/spray and wipe etc is the best way. The product we use at work to find leaks is leak check, effectively a soapy water.

Where it bubbles is your leak. Start at the joins. At worst you'll give the engine bay a bit of a clean.
