My Clutch? My Clutch? My Clutch, my clutch...
Ok. I'm 99% sure its my clutch.
Putting the pedal down in 3rd, and 4th the car goes normally till about 4500rpm then it slows down to 4000rpm 'grips' and goes hard again. There is kinda 'lag' during boost. is that my clutch slipping? It also is kinda rough at low revs putting it in from neutral to first. If its a new clutch, what is recommended? My car is stockish with bov, 3"ex, k&n filter etc

Go with new Standard clutch as heavy duties put stress on the stock box and more chance of them breaking i hear!

IT's not hard to pick a clutch, when you put your foot down it will start to feel like the clutch pedal has engaged. So the car rev's higher (as in with clutch in) but the car's not doing any ware.

They usually stink like something is burning aswell, can't speek highly enough of the ones MMS get made, excellent.

im no mechanic but it does not sound like clutch at all. a dead clutch causes revs to rise high and quick with the car going no faster.
what is it like in 1st and 2nd? _any_ problems?? |

Drive along at a steady pace in 3rd or 4th gear, accellerate hard and then dip the clutch pedal in and out quickly. If the car just jerks, the clutch is ok. If the revs go right up and then slowly stabilise you know it's slipping......

just some friendly advice on my experience... dont waste your time with locally rebuilt clutches, conclusively ive found them to be junk and die as soon as theyve been overcooked a couple of times (my last 'autoclutch' rebuild with 2800lbs pressure plate only lasted a few thousand km before slipping and shuddering with each gear.
get an exedy sports tuff full face organic, you get a brand new pressure plate new clutch ring, new release bearing. these clutches can take an absolute beating and always seem to come back fresh again after a few hours if you do happen to spin them up. they are rated for upwards of 450ish hp, the only time ive managed to massively spin mine is when ive botched a launch. cost difference is negligible and at the end of the day you wind up with all brand new components. not a re-glue of overthick poor grade material onto someones flogged out clutch plate with rattling load springs and a previously heatsoaked pressure plate with a skinny off balanced remachined face. also, dont bother with any form of brass or hybrid style plate, the shock loading to the driveline when engaging gears will soon destroy your gearbox, and in reality will kill your flywheel and pressure plate even sooner. full-face organic is the only way to go to retain full streetability.

On the topic of clutches.
Taken from the Exedy Website "The drivability will be similar to a regular clutch, however drivers may experience increased pedal effort, slight shudder and increased cabin noise due to the performance characteristics of the clutch. All of our clutch discs have high capacity sprung centre dampers to reduce the drivetrain shock and impact. " FYI |
