Default Cusco Diff Type RS or MX

I was asked recently what the practical difference is between the two types of Cusco LSD, Type RS or MX.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

As explained to me when I bought my diffs:

Type RS - Street style diff, torque transfer is gradual (absorbed by some springs in the diff)

Type MZ - Race style diff, torque is wham bam thank you ma'am. (Uses plates so its on stronger)

I believe your a wham bam sort of guy is that what you went with?
I would have thought the gradual (RS) would be more track friendly? More questions I know, thanks in advance.

I bought the RS - loved it to bits. Was brilliant on the track. Personally for a street car 1.5 way rear would be the win. Saying that, I'm putting a 2 way in my MY98 sh*tbox. 2 way you just have to remember to keep the boot in.

Stace bought the MZ - yet to bust a heli I believe

I would think the MZ would be better for a drag type car rather than a tarmac rally type car too.

RS .... uses a series of small springs between the two pressure rings to exert preload on the plates

MZ .... uses Cone plates at opposite ends of the LSD to exert preload on the plates

MZ has a higher preload so it is more likely to resist plate slippage when one wheel is off the ground.

I need to check but I think race torque put a rs in the front of mine. 1.5 way for the win. 2 in the rear. Have you dealt with Frank at Modena re the centre diff? a bit special needs....
