Default Need a tune???

Hey guys, I currently have a cat back xforce exhaust for a 06 wrx and was thinking about doing a full system with a 3" dump pipe, I'm just unsure if I need a after all this is done??? I don't really want to get it tuned just yet because I want to do a a few more things before I'm finished but at the same time I don't want a car that is going to stuff up...

Could someone please help

Thanks brad.

if you are going a full turbo back exhaust, yes you will need a tune!

On the 06 onwards they are especially prone to failure without one.

I wouldnt be too concerned about waiting on the other mods though.

the initial outlay for the software (either ecutek or verso) will be your main cost.

After that, re tunes really are cheap. If you cant afford a retune, you cant afford the mods IMO.

IIRC its ~$200 for a retune if that. For most people the modding is a never ending cycle, so waiting until you are completly finished with mods until you get a retune may be futile.

However, if you have the cash ready and are wiling for the next few stages of coarse it would be worth waiting until te next parts arrive.

Just be sure to actually move forward instead of continually waiting on that next piece.

I.E. at your stage, get the TBE, intercooler, injectors, turbo and get the major work out of the way. frmthen on its just s imple case of turbo choice that will be your main source of expendituree

What are these failures and limp modes guys?

I ran a full turbo back for 1 year untuned on my 05. The stock ecu will pull back any gains you get from the exhaust so there is no added power like the old GC's.

You may run richer (never done any testing myself or seen any - would be good if anyone has some data to post up) which could cause your bores to be washed, but there are that many safety levels in a stock ecu, it would be pretty hard to do this with just an exhaust.

It will definitely need a tune........it has to do with the 02 sensor and the extra flow from the exhaust from memory. 02 sensor reads more flow Ecu thinks there is a problem to cut a long story short.

05 is fine John it's the 06/07's (ecu) that don't like the extra flow
and puts the car into safety mode by dropping the power/boost
etc so there is no damage caused (hopefully).

02+ wrx and sti all suffered tune issues with dump pipe and/or up pipe changes. Usually resulting in going too lean where it mattered.

Thanks guys,
I got a hold of race torque and they gave me a bunch of prices but I'm unsure if it's too expensive, it's alot to cough up in 1 hit but the prices n stuff are:

M/s pipe to finish the exhaust off $245
Hi flow cat $370
Ecutek type3 custom rune w/dyno $1990
Upgraded fuel pump $330
NGK indrum plugs $100 per set
Labour for exhaust and plugs $180

What do you guys think about this??
