a cat back gives minimal improvement, hence the limited need of an ECU.
when real gains are to be made, you'll need an ecu or retune.

a lot of aftermarket cat backs give a placebo because of the noise, when infact true gains may only be as little as 5 or so hp.

Yes.

And tuna, re. a placebo effect on apparent power due the new exhaust noise - I hope so.

Does $750 sound reasonable for a custom 3 inch SS cat back system?

Thanks to all for the replies.

save yourself the $$$'s and just get a muffler for noise.......

do the rest of it through to the turbo when you at the same time you do your ECU.

As I said in a previous thread, My MY01 was fine with the standard ECU, it gave better power in the 2500-3000 range, sounded wicked and loved it.
The noise did get to me, however I am a special case where 1000+KM per week was no problem for me to do very very often.
I'm with dan, RMS saved my car after some other stupid tuners fucked it up. They will only sell you what you need.

A TBE will not need tuning, but if you go a CAI or such then you might find you need tuning.

RMS arent into ripping people off. $750 will just be covering materials and their TOP QUALITY A1 Labour, not to mention their absolutely fucking brilliant service.

Thanks DAN682, I spoke to Alex (at Revlimit) and he was quite helpful - answering my many questions. Will let you know how I go during and after fitting.

I'm getting a bit bored with the stock exhaust sound (or lack of).

OK, exhaust has been fitted for a couple of weeks now. Just some observations:

The exhaust seems to be burbling a little when off the throttle (ie very small backfiring). I am guessing its just running richer now? Havent noticed an increase in fuel consumption though.

The rear bumper is slightly stained. This, I guess, is explained by the car now running richer? When the car is first started (cold) there is a slight spitting of what looks like watered down oil (not oil, I imagine but water that built up overnight and become dirtied by the dirty exhaust??). This spitting quickly passes as the car warms up.

Also, at night, when under WOT, I can see "smoke" in the lights of the car behind me. Do you think this is, again, from a richer mix?

I *feel* like the car is every so slightly slower.

Just some observations I have had. My question is, can a cat-back exhaust cause the ECU to run richer and can running richer cause the above symptons?

I will be talking to RMS about a new ECU and full TB exhaust (the more I mod, the more I want to mod - you guys are right ) in the next few days.

Anyway, just wanted to give some feedback. If this post sounds negative, its not meant to be, as I am extremely happy with the note/service/worksmanship etc.

Also, I hate that I can't search for "RMS ECU" on this forum (words are too small). I really want to get some feedback on RMS's ECU work and want to search the forums before I post another thread....

Any feedback (or links to other threads) appreciated.
