Default Guess whats broken and win a prize....

Symptoms:

1. car idles smoothly, then gurgles and starts to die.
2. car idling with the clutch in....lights on dash dim and whole car turns off including engine and all interior lights, stereo etc. Power steering locks.
3. car wont boost much.... boost does not go over say 5psi... engine still revs smoothly though.
4. Feels like power is wasting away somewhere but it can be driven smoothly at 120 or 80 or even low speeds. Just no power if you try to rev it.

Anyone got any ideas? I was thinking either clogged fuel filter, fuel lines or alternator is gone and not producing enough spark to go....

No smoke coming from the exhaust, all hoses appear attached properly.... and wasnt driving hard when the car first starting having the problems.

Simon.

yeah first time no worries ....but the idle is a little dodgey...like you can tell the computer is compensating for something... very subtle at low revs...then when u try to boot it it feels soft...like nothing obvious but just no power... not much boost.. just kinda noise and nothing.

if you've checked all vacuum lines. I'd be looking towards somewhere along the fuel line side of things.

Pump, filter etc.

I've been through both vacuum line problems, as well as fuel pump issues.

Made diagnosing the problem very dificult for us.

Similar probs i had with dying alternator!!
Does it also slightly surge a little in the top end of the rpm?

Got one for $70 (second hand) from Jap wholesales and was done.

Cool.... i figure alternator makes more sense given that the link hand controller is showing the same figures I always see on almost every setting i look at.... and the oil pressure is still rock solid....and the boost when at very light load on the freeway at 100kph is still 700mg of mercury which is normal for the cruising suction.

Is there any key way to test if alternator is rooted.... like the voltage at idle? i can check that on the link hand controller.

get the alternator rebuilt. or it could be the regulator. i had similiar issues with a worn regulator. after replacing it is was all good.
