Help with Sound System - Any advice
I have just been poking around in my new car trying to get all the speakers working.
Turns out that there is an Alpine sound system in this car, but only the 2 rear speakers are working! There are 2 amps, Alpine MRV-T503. I think the one under the driver seat connects to the subwoofer and the rear speakers, and the one under the passenger seat connects to the front door speakers, and the custom-installed alpine tweets on the front dash/console plastics. There is also a Pioneer 12CD Changer in the boot. Everything is bolted to the chassis and routed very cleanly, so I would guess a proper professional did the job. Who would you guys recommend me to take it to? Anybody got this equipment, or is familiar with car stereo setups and may know why its not working? I had a look for lights on the amps but I cannot seem to find any. I will post the other part numbers shortly. Cheers. |

most basic test is to check for power and ground to the amps. Multi-meter is best. Then its just a case of making sure that everything is plugged in, eg, RCA's, speakers. etc. Having a speaker for testing would be handy, to connect to the speaker wires, just to eliminate the speakers as the issue. I've been told you can put 12V power to speakers momentarily to make the cones move, just to test them. But I'd be a bit wary of doing this I think.

+1 for double checking all relevant cables are connected...
RCA to amp and to headunit, positive and negative connected - properly, check fuses, look for any shorts in the wiring, follow it to the battery, check for in-line fuses. Make sure they are wired to the correct polarity, and the switches on the amps for channel selection are in the right position. Again, multi-meter is the best bet. Also...check the remote signal cable from the headunit/cd changer. Do you know if the amplifiers are wired separate to eachother? or chained together (daisy chain)? Cheers and good luck |
