So let me get this straight.

You organise a group buy.

People buy.

1 person who know what he is doing installs said brakes.

They destroy themselves.

Independent testing "states" impropper use.

You agree and the person is left with the bill?

I dont understand fully maybe.

The two reports contradict each other. Auto Parts suggests that "no regard to bed in" whilst DBA states "full contact on both inner and outer faces".

It's one or the other - If Dave gave no regard to bedding the pads in then there wouldn't have "full contact" to the rotor surfaces.

Even if they weren't bed in 100% correct, a street pad should not cause that much damage to your rotors. And yeh the 2 reports do contradict each other.

Have to love the advertising in the other thread

'Does not contain elements that will rip into your rotors.'

Let's get this straight, we are neutral on this. Our job was to get the report and post it up as requested. Simple. Any further questions raised should be directed to both Bryce from Intima and Michael from DBA as these are beyond our control as resellers for them.

As for leaving Dave with the bill, we got him a brand new set of rotors even before the reports were out.

Actually your job was to send your client (me) the report.

I am curious about one thing..what pad would you now recommend for street use if you have DBA 4000 rotors & brembo calipers ?

Lets be fair here, out of 'from memory', 20 rotors and the few pads that went out there was only one comeback. One out of 20 is still VERY good odds even though I'm sure blommer would have wanted a completely hassle free transaction for everyone.

Be interesting to get some real reports from Subaru that accurately and with complete and utter transparency show their ratio of comebacks. Sure the sample sizes are a lot larger and one would expect more comebacks but I'm sure you'd see Subaru in a different light.

Inb4 gross exaggeration etc

very typical of people who arent mechanics fitting brakes. I know that brake rotors can be scored, sometimes very deeply in normal use. As a mechanic, and installing and seeing many thousands of sets of pads and rotors be used, i can assure you i have seen this many times before.

What i would have done, is kept the pads and rotors in there. There is no safety issue and i do agree that it was most likely the bedding in process being done incorrectly. Rotors can take up to 1000km to bed in properly, sometimes even more. not something you can do on a test drive.

I think that the whole forum jumped the gun a little on this one.

Im sure ill get flamed on this one, but i hate seeing people complaining about a product even though it was improper use.

Cheers

Tom

Mate I think the more realistic answer would be that its hard to ensure every single product produced by large manufacturers is 100% consistent regarding quality and if you factor in all the variables applicable to cars it makes it even harder.

Short response would be the person whom fitted these is well educated and experienced in their field.
