Default 06 STi Brakes

Hey guys,

Just bought myself an 06 STi. Many thanks to Justin from the forum

Car goes great but having serious noise issues with the brakes. The pads all seem ok meat wise (bearing in mind I'm no expert) so Im thinking the pad/rotor setup maybe the culprit. This is what is currently installed:

-DBA 5000 series rotors front
-DBA 4000 series rotors rear
-QFM A1RM pads front and rear
-HEL braided brake lines
-Quantum Motor Sports brake duct bracket

Thoughts? The noise really is very loud especially under light braking and I doubt this is normal even for a semi-track type pad...

I ran Bendix Ultimates on my version 6 STi and these worked well apart from a bit of dust. Might be as simple as swapping them out for a new set of these.

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers,

Chris

I have QFM A1RM pads on Brembos too. And I also get a squeal on light braking. Goes away with a bit of heat in the brakes or if I step on the brake pedal a little harder. Feels normal for these kinds of pads.

Have you got your shims in properly behind the brake pads? and you can try anti-squeal grease on the back of the pads too.

Bendix Ultimates are ok if you dont intend on taking them to the track. You could put them in and then swap in the A1RMs when you head off to the track.

Are the rotors glazed/shiny?

If so might be worth getting them skimmed, Dougie got mine done for $70 not long ago.

Go and do about 4 120-15km / hr stops in quick succession to see if it gets rid of the problem for a while ( go find a nice quiet road.. )

Alternatively pm American Dave for a bedding in procedure.

My rotors (also using brembo's) are almost like a mirror, but no squeal at all, cept the first few light stops in the morning.

PM Greg (gslrallysport) on here. He is the distributor for the pads and might give you more insight.

A performance pad will squeal when cold. Learn to love it

Yeh tried the fast braking thing on the weekend (I live out in the bush so plenty of good spots) and I think it made it worse not better...Thought if I heated them up it would improve but didn't make much difference.

I was happy with the Ultimates so might use these until I need something a bit better for track days....

Yeah lucky you, how does this help the OP?

The reason I mentioned glazing on the rotor and suggested getting them skimmed was to try and see what was actually causing the squeal, if they get skimmed and they still squeal then its the pads etc.

Mine were glazed and had constant squeal, even lots of braking didn't get rid of it either.

I've got Acre pads/Dixcel rotots and they never used to squeal up until 2 or so months ago (10,000kms with few track days, lots of sprinted driving and hard braking) and there's plenty of meat on both but were both were glazed, the only thing we can think of why its squealing so much now is somehow the pads are extremely hard now to the point that instead of gripping with the rotor its just sliding on it.

Dougie got the rotors skimmed and it was ok for 15mins until the pad started glazing up the rotor again, so I've got some new APP pads to put in and hopefully all is good then.

For some reason those pads gets really noisy, you are not the first one having

this noise problems with these pads, I have got a set of pads you can try, if

that fixes the problem then you will know they are the pads, swap them out to

their HPX range 0-550cc, don't seem to have a problem with those.
