Default Wipers loose/going too far??

Hi guys, was hoping for some insight or help on this.
My wipers seem to be going either too far and flicking off the side of the windscreen, leaving scratches on the A pillar. Sometimes they don't go far enough to cover the windscreen. I've tried messing around with them and tightening/loosening the nut on top but can't seem to fix it that easily. Has anyone had this before, do I have to take the whole lot off to get under the wipers and adjust something there? It's a bugeye sti btw.

Cheers guys

What he said.
Pop the black cap off, and remove the nut and in turn, the wiper arm entirely. Inspect the treaded stub and the nut to ensure either of the threads are not damaged.
Then report back.

Hey guys, yeah I've tried all off that.. Threaded bolt yeah, tried completely tightening the bolt but still no good, I'm starting to think could be an internal thing and will have to
Remove the whole lot.. Are there like belts or something underneath that I should check or something?

Just metal linkages with nylon sockets. grab the wiper arms with the wipers off. You should be able to try and force them to move and the arm should stay still. If you can force 1 arm to move check that the tapered splines arent stripped from the nut not being tight enough. Try the same with the other arm.

If not there should be very little movement in the wiper linkages, say 3-5mm. if you can feel freeplay when you try and move the arms, then one of the linkages might be worn, but when they are worn they normally just fall off and stop working.

yeah the nylon knuckle joint is flogged out, if you don't want to spend $60 or whatever on a whole new arm, mine did this about 3 years ago, i resetted the ball joint into the metal arm with selleys 'knead' it, was more of an experiment at the time but yeah still going strong years later LOL
