Default windscreen wipers

Have been giving me the shits lately. whenever they go down to horizontal they go to far (past the window seal and onto the plastic below) and makes a thud. considering its been raining heavily everyday i can't stand putting them on highest speed as the thuds are louder and more frequent!

Just wondering if this is a matter of tightening something or is it worth getting new ones as all they do is smudge the water over my windscreen anyway....

if you can move the wipers up and down a bit when they arn't switched on.....

....the nylon knuckle that goes on the end of the wiper control arm (under the plastic cowel) will be flogged out, happened on my forester, $60odd from subaru for a whole new control arm, i went on a mission to try & find just a nylon knuckle to use and had no luck at any auto parts stores

i ended up removing the arm, moulding the knuckle back into the control arm with 'knead-it' its worked a treat for the last year or so since i fixed it

you'll get the idea what going on from this thread:

uinfortunately the problem lies in the control arms not the wiper arms, new wiper blades will do sweet f.a.
