Kato is right, in what he is saying. You will need to ensure your car is tuned for higher boost pressures on your turbo, or by getting another turbo. To be honest, you should even get a tune just for swapping the exhaust over. Have a good look for the ApexI power FC

So just to clarify, the motor you have in the car now is non turbo motor? You have a 99-00, EJ20 with ECU, which is running the standard TDO4?

Have you already got an exhaust on the car already, I see some stainless sticking out the back of your car. But that could just be a muffler I guess. That car looks like it has had some work done to it already. Custom intake manifold, custom bonnet, what's next to the alternator, on the left of it? Almost looks like a supercharger.

Take some more pics of under the bonnet, under the car. Might give us a better idea what you may already have.

Nice looking ride too.

Yeah that car isn't mine. Mine is still stock with the old EA82.

Thx for all the imput guys, it has given me quite a few bit to think about.

And yes, For now all i've got is, The car, the motor, an MY 99-00 EJ20 with ECU, which is running the standard TDO4.

Thats it

I would say a stock EJ20 would be enough in a Vortex. In my opinion, a front mount with custom piping would be the way to go too. The last thing you want to do is ruin the appearance by putting some ugly scoop on the bonnet.
To compare the length of piping needed on an Impreza to the length needed on a Vortex is pointless, they're completely different cars.
I never say it but, front mount for sure.

Yeah i don't want to have a wanky looking huge WRX scoop on the bonnet.

Reverse manifold looks like an interesting option. Is that cheaply and easily achievable? Is their a build thread that show how to install / make one?]

Is it just a question of flipping the manifold over?

Can i still use the std turbo with a reverse manifold?
From the pics i see, they all have those big ass turbo's sticking on the side like. think its called 'angle mount' .

With the idea to try and reduce the volume of air and allow less drag, fast spool, Would using one of these be better?

Instead of the big ones like this

So would using a smaller size intercooler like above or about the size of a top mount as a FMIC help to reduce volume and lag and make the turbo spool quicker?

Also in that same manner, instead of using 2.5 and 3inch piping could i drop it to 2 and 2.5inch?

I would say something like the middle pic, the long skinny one would be the go.
2.5" should be ok. Keep the velocity of the air high.
