Default VF23 or TD05-20G?

Hey all,

Just wondering which turbo would be best for my 1997 MY98 GC8, I'm running 16PSI of boost high 11PSI low and just want an extra kick in my car.

It has a stock turbo on it at the moment, which im assuming is a TD04?

Just looking for information on which turbo is better and also Pro's and Con's?

Thanks in advance,
CLARKIE

Before changing turbos, what are you going to use to tune the engine to suit?

GC8's can run more mods untuned than the GD's etc, but you aren't making the most of it.

Also, what is controlling your high and low boost? And why bother having high and low boost?

For me, I prefer the VF series as they are used in the STi range. TD05-20G would be pretty laggy I'm guessing, without any other supporting mods.

I currently Have 3" TBE, Front mount intercooler, Drift pod and thats bassicly it.

I also have a greddy spec c in car boost controller, and to be honest i rarely use the low boost it's ussually always set on high =)

so are you saying that the TD05-20G is a bigger turbo then the VF23 because it will have more lagg?

Your car will most likely be fairly laggy as is with the FMIC and no suporting mods/turbo to suit (not to mention no tune). Don't play with your boost if you dont want your EJ205 to go pingping.
Give Nick at ASG a call to dicuss what he thinks would be best.

im pick the vf23 for being a call bearing turbo, will help counteract the higher boost threshold you have induced by fitting a front mount intercooler

I have a TD05 20G if you are interested, Its a bigger turbo than VF 23 and as others have said would not fit one without other supporting mods.

Fitting a TD05-20g without injectors and an ecu and smashing it on 16 psi high boost will =

"wanted, new engine for 97 WRX"

It would flow way more air than you current setup could handle.

so what your saying is a VF23 would possibly be the best option? old owner of the engine had vf37 twin scroll on 18 psi, frontmount, boost controller, pod, not sure about a tune, but im pretty sure injectors were upgraded.

I have a VF23 in my MY98. Great turbo, comes on early and is still going strong by the red line.

The 22b came with a VF23

Take the car to a workshop to figure out what is in it and then plan the rest of your mods (including turbo) to suit.
