Default Battery/alternator issues

hello,

Over the last year or so the daily 1994 Corolla has started to play up every now and then.

Issue:

The car sometimes starts up and sometimes it doesn't, i would say it starts up 90% of the time first go.

Things i have noticed:

Once in a while the standard car deck would reset itself (lose all pre set stations and time) but i had not disconnected the battery.

It might start up first go, then when i come back to the car e.g. after going to the shops, it wont start up at all. At times it will totally not start up again sometimes if i wait 10-15 minutes it will fire up again.

Possible issue:

1.Battery i have a new one in since last year.

2.alternator? I heard that if you drive short distances, it might not charge up enough? but if that is the case regardless if it was a 5 minute or 45 minutes car trip 'this issue has happened before'

i really don't have too much knowledge with cars, so i wanted to get a few opinions before heading to a mechanic and maybe getting stuff changed that i didn't really need to.

thanks in advance.

Starter motor armature or bushes... Maybe even the relay?

Can you hear it click as you turn the key to the start position when it does this?

Like rexy, if there is any of the white stuff around the terminals, sprinkle on some bi carb soda and wash off with boiling water. Then tighten connection.

cheers for the replies, i have cleaned and re tighten the terminals. Issue has pretty much only come up once in the last 2 or so months, one other thing i notice is when i'm getting a jump start from another car (it will immediately start, no need to wait for it to charge up). I have been looking at getting a SCA Jumpstart - 900 Amp, Heavy Duty from supercheap auto, has anyone ever bought one if so are they reliable.

thanks again.
