well tonight ran into some problems with the rex and im pretty sure ive dropped a valve. Making a very weird ticking noise from the side of the motor. As i accelerate its very irratic and you can just feel it struggling.

Just wanted to know has anyone had to replace a valve? how much roughly does it cost? and how long does it take to change?

I blew a head gasket & it cost me $1,200 after machining etc, But I took the motor out & put it back in................so lots.

What did u do to make that happen.. or was it one of those things that can just happen ??

just happened, was turning right onto riverside drive and as i acclerated just noticed it coming off the lights.

may be the lifters, try draining your engine oil n put new oil in but b4 u do dat try lifter free, one of ur lifters may be stuck just go 2 super cheap n buy sum

yer engine lifters make them noise when they fark up and make a ticking noise i would give that a shot

yeah the lifters had crossed my mind, hopefully it is that rather then being the valve itself

Yeh, let me know how u go but seems like it is your lifters, i used Nulon Lifter free itsonly lyk $12 or so n just had 2 drain the oil really good n buy new oil filter etc but the noise took bout 100km for it to go away if not straight away

Are you running antilag?? You might have cracked a shim.

If you do this, the valve clearance will be totally wrong, and it'll make a horrible ticking noise, which can actually sound like a big end.

WRXs dont have "lifters", they have buckets which actuate the valves. One of your buckets might be jammed in the bore where the bucket sits if the shim has broken and jammed it in there, but changing oil wont do anything for ya if this has happened.

its def not a big end or anything, i know wot they sound like lol, its only a light tick as well. Hopefully its just the bucket as you say they dont have lifters. Ive never seen them on rex, never pulld the top off. Ill just be dropping it off at rms tomorrow for them to diagnose exactly wots wrong.
