Default caring for a turbo engine

Folks, mentioned in my intro thread this is my first turbo car and its all a bit new.

Can someone let me know the basics of caring for a turbocharged engine? I'm aware of allowing the car to idle for a bit after finishing a drive but would be interested in any pearlers that are common knowledge but are still new to me. would also like to get an opinion on turbo timers, are they worth getting etc.

Looking forward to your feedback

Russ

Common opinions on Turbo Timers is they are just a fuel waster Just let your car idle for a sec in the driveway when you stop, just to pump a little more oil around and its good enough. Unless your racing on a track, then its another story.

thanks buddy. i'm usually a stickler for servicing, if anything prob do a bit more regularly than the average bear.
I guess something different. I'm used to old lumpy yank v8s that just require regular oil changes and a different type of care. I've heard horror stories of turbos blowing up etc.
Thanks for the tip, will just let it idle for a bit at the end of the journey

No real need to idle after driving unless you've been giving it a hiding, best thing is to take it easy for the last few minutes of driving, most important is to NEVER give it a hard time until it's up to operating temp.............That will kill it, other than that service every 5-6,000km with a good synthetic oil and they are no different to any other car.

cheers pimpreza much appreciated. Usually never drive a car hard in the start of the drive, but thanks for the tip of getting to the end of the ride and taking it easy.

Everytime I finish driving my car I pop the door open and wait for the BRANT system to think it's been stolen/hi-jacked

20 - 30 seconds later it starts beeping and I shut it off (before it shuts itself off): built in timer.

I dont NEED to do this but it can't hurt.

No boost until fully warmed up = longevity. Proper warm up would be 2-3 km of suburban roads before hitting the freeway for example.

cool down = a minute or two of no boost before pulling in your driveway & shutting off.

Check your oil at least once a week - more often if you drive it hard.
Check other fluids weekly.

[EDIT- What Pimpreza said lol!]

What they said re motor.

I was told at licensing branch Friday that the laws have changed
Regarding turbo timers. Are now a yellow sticker option and void
Your insurance.

Anyone know for sure what the go is?

Oh no! Hope I don't get pulled over for having a timer.
What a load of wank. Why do they think of the most stupid things to sticker people for?
Can't be for safety reasons.
