Default New Slotted Rotors - Is This Normal?

Hi,

Had new rotors put on this week....

After one lap at the track today, the hubs looked like this. Paint was bubbling on the hub, near the rotor surface. Brakes felt fine all day, but i'm just wondering if bubbling paint is anything to worry about.

Looks like they got pretty warm! I would change your brake fluid, and inspect your pads for cracks. Other then that it should be ok

Need more info.

Did you fit the rotors yourself or did you have them fitted by someone?

Were new pads fitted with the rotors and if so what pads are you running?

Brakes do get bloody hot, especially if you have been doing track work.

I doubt there'd be any damage after only one lap on such good disc brakes and pads?

The paint on the hub is just cosmetic. Not a big deal if it deteriorates anyway.

I'd be interested to check the paint markers on the outer edge of the rotor though, to see how hot they actually got.

Green becomes white at 458deg C
Orange becomes yellow at 550deg C
Red becomes white at 650deg C

Normal. If paranoid, spend more and get 5000's.

28mm wide brembo rotors and the TRW fluid together would be more than enough to take that heat.

Rotor hat paint is the worst paint in the world, so relax... You are using your brakes like they are made to do..
Did you actually see the paint bubble before your eyes? If so, that a bit of a no no.. standing still with the rotors glowing hot will do damage eventually... you really need to cool them down before you come to an extended stop.

Cheers for the quick replies guys....if it's normal i'll relax now....

Andy - yup after the first stop the inner part of the rotor was very very hot and was steaming after i stopped. After i saw that i went for a lap around the car park to cool it down and then rolled back and forth before properly stopping....

Funnily enough after the first lap, the brakes didnt get that hot again, but my lap times were faster so probably just new brakes getting worn in?
